Equine therapy, also known as equine-assisted therapy (EAP), is a treatment that uses horses to help people improve their physical, occupational, and emotional health. 

How it works

  • Participants work with horses in Individual or      small groups, performing tasks like grooming, feeding, leading of BFA 6      week Curriculum
  • Participants learn about themselves and others      through their interactions with the horses 
  • Participants discuss their experiences and   emotions with a therapist 

What it can help with 

  • Equine therapy can help with a variety of      conditions, including:
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Genetic syndromes like Down syndrome
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Abuse
  • Drug and alcohol addiction

Why it works

  • Horses are sensitive to non-verbal communication,      which can help clients become more aware of their emotions 
  • Horses can help clients develop confidence and      self-efficacy by learning horsemanship 
  • Horses can help clients overcome fear and develop confidence 
  • Horses can help clients release endorphins, which      are feel-good hormones

This case story shares how a veteran struggling with anger, moral injury, and suicidal attempts and thoughts is impacted in an Equine session. The equine Model provides an experience for clients to visually see, touch, and feel their internal struggles in a physical, external way, through the horses. It touches people in a way that other modalities may not.
